Ummmmmm.......well..........might not be CP for long...........
Seriously, a great Ur-Quattro a few years ago was 40k+ so 60-80k isn’t as unreasonable as it sounds if you’re a collector. From a performance standpoint it is a shitty price for an, honestly, shit car. The original quattro handles like a drunken donkey and even the quattro sport will get paddled quite firmly by any bone stock WRX impreza made in the past decade or so. But for people who speculate and collect, that is only slightly above fair market, if that....

Crack pipe. I can pay off my student loans and start my crack empire with that price.

The only ones that will be really worth any serious money are the racing ones

You say that now, but if it were mymoney, I would bet on all of their prices rising. 10 years ago, they were only 20-25k for a mint one. 5 years ago it was nearly 40k. Performance has nothing to do with it compared to heritage and rarity.

This year good ones are still 40k, this one is 80k.

Which “good ones”? 1982/83 common color ones? This is a last year model in a rare brown. Most were red/white/blueish if I remember correctly. It is probably overpriced, but I think it would be more than the 40k your typical red 1983 is bringing in.

It would have to be perfect to approach that price. And while nice - it ain’t perfect. Tens of thousands of crackpipe’s worth.

Too bad this is in America.
Look at Japan. Skyline GTRs are (or, were) dirt cheap compared to here. Thanks to a high and common demand for a relatively popular model, prices are increasing in Japan as well. But until people ship Ur-Quattros over here, prices in freedomland will remain higher than deutschland.
It’s no different than someone coming up to you and going “Well if I drive 1000 miles to the other side of the country I can get this car for 2000$ less so you should give me a 2000$ discount!”. If the price you’re asking is fair, would you honor it on the spot? Hell no! If i can get 55-60k for an ur-quattro because that’s what they trade for and you come up and go “Well they’re 45k in Germany” I’d go “okay, go import yoru 45k quattro”.

Saving close to $30k is totally worth it

Well, if this car has to have a price drop to sell then I agree with you. If he ends up having to accept 40-50k then you were right. My guess is it’ll still go for near 60k. Between importation and delivery fees and paperwork and whatnot, you’d lose money on anything more than 40k. Even then......perhaps the american ur-quattro is worth more because of it. I don’t remember the differences.

The NA market cars were heavier and had less power

But again, it’s not about performance, it’s about rarity and availability. This is a collector car now. It’s 30 years old and less than 1000 were sent here over what, 4 years? THe European run of this gen went on until 1989 or 1990 IIRC.
